The Space
La Fondue is situated along Country Club Drive in Incline Village. The restaurant, which opened in 1980, had its interior redesigned last year and features ski posters from pre-World War II Europe.

The Food
“Swiss Alpine” is the name given to the restaurant’s cuisine. Contrary to the popular impression, the majority of the fondues are not cheese, but rather oil-based, with the meats, served with various sauces.

Fondues come with French bread, dates rolled in bacon and a choice of soup or salad. An alternative to fondues are popular schnitzel selections, which come with potato pancakes and the choice of soup or salad. Something from the attractive list of appetizers can open dinner whether you go with fondue or schnitzel. And the French bread keeps on coming, from before-dinner drinks through your entrée.

The Drinks
The extensive wine list runs mostly to domestics, as does the beer list. There is also a full bar, from which this writer, continuing his Martini Watch, got an ample libation.

Gotta Try
The lamb and chicken fondues are excellent examples of the oil-based fondues, and are deceptively filling. The same goes for the desserts, all of which are “enough to share.”

Tidbit
Upstairs, La Fondue has a Tahoe-themed room for parties and receptions of up to 30 people.

Price Range
Fondues range from $15 to $34, schnitzels are in the mid-to-low $20 range and appetizers run from $6-$15. Beers are $5, wine by the glass runs from $6 to $9 and a selection of half-bottles and bottles range from $22 to $70. For an excellent value, try the Couples Special dinner for two for $55, available every night except Saturday.
