A winter Wednesday Happy Hour tradition kicks off Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Sunnyside Resort along Lake Tahoe’s West Shore — Fish Tacos night.

Populated by locals in the early season, Sunnyside’s half-price fish tacos ($3) brings friends and family alike together to socialize by one of the best views of Lake Tahoe around.

Choose between beer-battered Pacific Snapper, or live dangerously and go for the Cajun style. Drink specials are also a part of the deal.

Early season, Sunnyside may get as many as 300 people into the bar during the course of the Wednesday evening ordering fish tacos and beer. At the peak season, expect that number to be closer to 700 throughout the night.

This is one event you don’t want to be on Tahoe Time for. The fun begins around 5 p.m.

Check out our slideshow from the first Taco Night of the season below:

Reasons why I love Fish Taco night ...

1. It’s something that’s happening on the West Shore. We don’t get much action out here in the winter — not that I’m complaining... but...more people SHOULD want to party on the West (and thus best) shore.

2. It begins at 5 p.m. — Since I have to wake in the early morn (4:30 a.m.) I enjoy any function where I can arrive early and leave early enough to be in bed by 9 p.m.

3. The tacos and beer are cheap.

4. It’s a fun way to meet people. Something about the act of cramming a fish taco in your mouth with one hand, trying to balance a beer in another hand in a room packed with people while trying to carry on a conversation with someone you just met is really fun.

Reasons why I love Fish Taco night ...

The reason why I like fish taco night — because I’m flying all the way in from N.Y. — is because New Yorkers don’t eat these things. You can’t find them anywhere! Plus the cheap beer and all the crazy laughs we have…”

Tacos by the number

Locals know that Wednesday is Sunnyside’s Fish Taco Night during the winter season. The special runs from 4 to 9:30 p.m. every Wednesday, through the end of April. Get there early because during peak times (5:30 to 9:30 p.m.) it is standing room only. The entire menu is open for ordering, not just tacos. Tacos are made to order.
