So, it’s the off-season. Overtime hours and big tips have gone the way of the tourists, and you’re broke or nearly so.

Time to tighten the belt and live off ramen noodles for a month?

Not necessarily, because local restaurants and bars are doing everything they can to reach out to the locals with some great deals.

Check out our list of some of the best ways to stretch your dollars until the holiday crowds arrive. (Be advised to call ahead for restaurant closures through November.)

TRUCKEE

Best Deal: Locals Special (Monday-Thursday)
Monday through Thursday at FiftyFifty you’ll get a burger and a pint of craft-brewed beer for $9.50. The burger is a mouthwatering all-American 1/2 pound patty served with a choice of the house salad, French fries, black beans or coleslaw. Wash it down with a pint of the Roundabout Oatmeal Stout, or chose your own favorite from their list of homemade microbrew selections.

Best Deal: November Locals Special
At the Asian-influenced Dragonfly restaurant in Truckee, show up through Nov. 25 and get a two-for-one entrée special for dinner. Try any of the delicious eastern-influenced main dishes — such as the Plantain Crusted Basa served with banana curry or the Seared Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna, served with panko-crusted egg, crispy nori chips and yuza-caper vinaigrette — and get one entrée free. Or stop by for the happy hour special from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and get a sushi roll and a Sapporo for $8.

If you live in Truckee stop by Blue Coyote Monday night during the game for 1/2 off wings and pizza chips and a raffle drawing every quarter during Monday Night Football. The normal happy hour runs from 3 to 6 p.m. and gets you a buck off drinks.

The happy hour special at Pacific Crest Grill & Bar of America, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, offers pizzas, appetizers and salads for half-off, and many drink specials such as: $3 domestic drafts, $4 import drafts, $3 well drinks, $3.50 wine specials and $4 daily “bartender” martinis. With an offer like this, there’s no excuse not to eat out. Two for one’s are also honored with the dining for schools card. (The happy hour special and the two-for-one offer are not available simultaneously.)

Enjoy the game and a fun family atmosphere at Pizza On The Hill every Monday night at The Lodge in Tahoe Donner. During the game we will offer a $12 pizza buffet and $2.50 Sierra Nevada Pale Ale pints. Every Monday evening to the end of the NFL season. Enjoy a $6 bowl of chili and $2.25 draft Coors Light. Wear the jersey of your favorite team and receive Happy Hour prices on drinks in The Pub all night long.


SQUAW

Thursdays at Zenbu means two-for-one well drinks and beers for ladies from 8:30 p.m. until close, as well as live house DJs spinning funky lounge music. Ladies, come for the drinks and the dance floor. Men, come for the ladies (we’ll need someone to help us get through all the freebies). On weekends, Zenbu rocks out with ski movie premieres and live music throughout the fall.

Show up at Mamasake during Happy Hour and chow a hand roll of your choice, washed down with a can of Bud for only $5. So good, you might have to stay for the sake.

Best Deal: Pub and Grub (3-7 p.m. weekdays)
Any weekday from 3 to 7 p.m., stop into the Auld Dubliner and get an appetizer and a pint for $10. Try the sausage roll with a Guinness — it’s worth every penny and a great deal at that. Also remember 1/2 price Monday’s at the Dubliner means you get half-off all food all day.


TAHOE CITY

The Place: Pete and Peter’s

Best Deal: Monday Night Football
Celebrate with the pros Monday nights with the score-based drink menu at Pete and Peter’s. Among other things you can get $1.50 Bud drafts at each field goal and $2 wells at each interception. Collect tickets as you drink and stick around after the game for the raffle drawing where you have a chance to win Pete’s gift certificates, Homewood Mountain ski passes and the grand prize of a Columbia ski parka valued at $150. Come in any time for a “Weiser-Meister” — a $6 pint of Bud and shot of Jagermeister combo. Or try the “Whip and a Grip” — a $5.50 pint of Bud accompanied by a shot of Schnapps.

During the week at the Blue Agave try El Blue Plate Especial and mix and match two entrees for $10 until 4 p.m. Try the cheese enchilada with a cup of soup, the chili relleno with the pork tamale or beef and chicken tacos. Also remember Blue Agave has the NFL Sunday Ticket — cure a hangover with one of their breakfast burritos and stay all day for the games.

Stop by the impressive bar at Sol Y Lago for great prices on the homemade sangria. Through happy hour, sangria and house margaritas are only $4, well drinks cost only $3, and make sure to ask the bartender about discounted food items from the revamped Latin- and Mexican-inspired menu. Settle in for the game on plasma screen TVs or the sunset through huge lakefront windows. Warning: the impressive tequila list might mean you splurge before you leave. (Note: Sol y Lago will be closed until Nov. 15)

River Grill in Tahoe City holds Happy hour from 5-6:30 p.m., seven days a week, all year. Half-price drinks and 25-50 percent off on the appetizer menu. Considered by some to be the best local deal around.


WEST SHORE

Best Deal: Monday Night Select Menu
This elegant Homewood restaurant goes local on Monday, with a select three-course menu served for only $40. Mix and match from a limited appetizer, entrée and dessert menu. This is a great way to experience this upscale menu on a budget.

Best Deal: Fish Taco Wednesdays
Fish taco night is back starting November 14! Locals know this deal needs no further clarification; however, in case you’re new in town, here’s the rundown: Wednesday’s from 4 to 10 p.m. at Sunnyside you’ll get $3 drafts and 1/2 priced fish tacos. You’ll also likely make 20 new friends. Just don’t plan on driving afterwards.


CARNELIAN BAY

The Place: CB’s Pizza & Grill

Best Deal: Happy Hour (3-6 p.m. every day)
Come to this funky Carnelian Bay hangout, where vintage lunchboxes and black and white jazz photos line the walls, and try their happy hour specials. The best deal? A pitcher of good draft beer (think Red Hook or Steelhead) for only $9.75. Monday night football is a sweet deal as well, with a raffle drawing at each quarter for prizes totaling over $100 and food and drink specials during the game.


KINGS BEACH

Come into the cozy wood-paneled bar at Lanza’s for free slices of pizza during happy hour. Wash it down with $1.50 Buds, or get 50 cents off any draft beer (Steelhead, Fat Tire, Gordon Biersch) and select wines.

The happy hour deals at Hiro are definitely some of the best in town. Get 16 oz. draft beers for $2-$3 (think Coors, Sapporo and Great White Bite) as well as great deals on appetizers and sushi. Some examples: a soft shell crab roll will cost you $4, an order of sesame chicken wings goes for $3.50, and they have seven rolls they serve for only $3. Remember, happy hour prices only apply at the front bar so get there early for a prime spot.

Come to this new KB hangout during happy hour to sample the house specialty cocktail — -a tequila-based drink they call a Chupacabra. Stay for half-off bar appetizers like the Sopes Trio, a blend of chicken tingas, queso fresco and braised pork-filled masa, or the Tecate and Chipotle Chile Relleno. It’s enough for a meal at half the price.


NORTHSTAR

Starting at 4:20 p.m. seven days a week, show up at this mouthwatering burrito joint for $1 pints of PBR. Drink up because this fast-paced promotion only lasts for 20 minutes. Normal happy hour runs from 3 to 5 p.m. with pints of Pabst for $2.50 and pints of Fat Tire, Hemp Ale, Longboard and Tahoe Red for only $3.50.


CRYSTAL BAY

The Place: Crystal Bay Club

Next time you find yourself at the Crystal Bay Club stop by the Players Club Desk for a takeaway flyer of their confirmed entertainment schedule. It includes at least one free Red Room Show a week (typically more), featuring great bands such as Sol Jibe and The Rusty Strings. While you’re there you may lose some money at the tables, but hey, at least the music was free.

The Place: The Biltmore

Best Deal: $1 Draft Bottles anytime
If you’re not gambling, you can still drink almost for free at the Bilty. The Biltmore features $1 draft bottles 24/7. And if you’re hungry the Biltmore’s Cafe serves up a steal for breakfast as well — for only $2.49 your get your choice of meat (bacon, ham or sausage) and eggs. Nothing like some cheap beer and diner food to drown your gambling sorrows or celebrate your winnings.


INCLINE VILLAGE

The Place: Rookies

Show up at this Incline Village sports hub for well drinks and drafts under $3 during happy hour. Watch the game or play video poker as you watch for the appetizer taster plates getting passed around.

Best Deal: Monday Night Football
Stop into Hacienda de la Sierra during Monday Night football for $1 tacos and drafts and enter the raffle to win Alpine Meadows tickets and a chance at a free color TV offered at the end of the season. The normal happy hour is Monday-Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.

Best Deal: Monday Night Football
Diamond Peak is teaming up with Crosby’s in Incline Village to celebrate Monday Night Football. Every Monday night there will be a raffle and swag giveaways during the football game. After the game all raffle tickets will go back into a main pot for a gigantic raffle on Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 3, 2008). The prizes given away during the main raffle include Diamond Peak passes, lift tickets and more.

Lanza's, the best Italian restaurant on the lake, has free pizza slices and cheap beer during happy hour? I'm there, then, come January's trip to the slopes.
