The Space
Situated on the banks of the Truckee River, the Crest Cafe is an open room with open windows — a perfect place to sit down, take in the view and enjoy a scrumptious meal. The casual breakfast and lunch joint is off the beaten path, just off of the River Road. But the spot is unique and convenient for skiers on their way to the slopes.

The Food
Owner Kyle Davis described the menu as freshly homegrown. Be ready to debate over a few items before finally picking your selection because the menu offers a diverse range of popular favorites, with a twist.

Breakfast selections include the egg, cheese and avocado burrito; a Bomb Sando with egg, bacon, chili , tomato and arugula; or the homemade granola, fruit and yogurt parfait. And the twist comes in with the breakfast pizza: eggs, tomato, chimichuri, onion, bacon and cheese.

Lunch is my favorite, with their house salad that comes with mixed greens, honey roasted pistachios, avocado, dried cranberries and their homemade champagne vinaigrette, or their veggie quesadilla on a garlic and herb tortilla. Or go for a new favorite with the mexican ciabatta panini, the cilantro and green chili gives it a nice little ‘oomph.

The Drinks
The Crest Cafe serves organic coffee from Alpen Sierra, as well as plenty of other organic refreshers, including beer, Honest Tea and Odwalla.

Gotta Try
Davis’ version of his grandma’s recipe for the meatball grinder. Homemade meatballs, with provolone cheese on a hot, oven-baked sandwich. The homemade soups, especially the veggie chili, are famous throughout North Tahoe, too.

Tidbit
Need a lunch to go? The Crest Cafe offers Trail Lunches with a sandwich, chips, a homemade cookie and drink for $6.95. They’re perfect to pick up before a ski day, or to take on a hike.

Location
On the river at the bottom of Alpine Meadows Road.
