The Space Tucked into a back corner of The Rock — the new development by the roundabout on Brockway Road in Truckee — Thai Delicacy is everything a Thai restaurant should be: inviting, delicious, and best of all, a family affair. Don’t be surprised to be greeted at the door by owner Jinny Chongolnee or her sister Cherry Yeesuntes.
The small restaurant feels intimate without being crowded, even during the lunchtime rush. And huge windows allow plenty of natural light in to illuminate the tasteful Thai decor.
The Food Tasty and perfectly spicy (or mild, if that’s what you prefer), Thai Delicacy’s menu includes more than 60 options including Thai staples such as Pad Thai; red, green and yellow curries; fried rice; and various combinations of meats, seafood and vegetables stir-fried together.
Love Pad Thai but want to try something slightly different? Cherry recommends the Pad Se-Iew noodles for a change. Other house specialties include the Spicy Sweet Basil, the Green Papaya Salad and the Chicken Curry Pop — deep-fried chicken marinated with house red curry sauce.
Don’t see something that jumps out at you? The wait staff will happily figure out exactly what you’re craving and make sure the kitchen puts it together for you.
The Drinks Awaken your taste buds with a silky sweet Thai iced tea, or choose from a selection of soft drinks, imported or domestic beers, and hot or cold sake, any of which will pair nicely with the spices in Thai food.
Gotta Try Whether you are a Thai food newbie or connoisseur, the Yummy Spinach will live up to its name. Fresh spinach is first steamed, then stir fried with your choice of chicken, pork, beef or tofu and vegetables. Served with a special house-made sauce and ground peanuts.
Tidbit The mid-week lunch special for $7.95 includes steamed rice or Pad Thai, a salad, appetizer and your choice of one of 11 diverse entrees. The lunch special is served Monday through Friday from 11 to 3 p.m.
Price Range Appetizers start at $6, go up to $15, and are great for sharing. Large soups, curries, noodles, rice dishes and entrees all range from $11 to $14.
Hours Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5 to 9:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 4 to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
