This weekend another exciting festival is in sight in the Village at Squaw Valley — the Art Bark Fest.
The summer has brought great music, some of California’s most impressive wines, talented artists, brews, and lots of people to enjoy the festivities in the valley. And this festival will be no different.
Lori Dotterweich, owner of Tails by the Lake boasts, “There are many art and wine festivals, but Art Bark Fest is truly unique because the artists & wineries are animal themed. “Where else can you sip on Chateau La Paws from Rosenblum Winery while viewing a multitude of animal-themed artwork?”
Not to mention, every type of dog attends the event, from large to small.
Because Art Bark Fest falls in mid-September, locals will finally have an opportunity to enjoy a great festival with a glass of wine in hand and a leash in the other.
One Truckee craftsman, Judd Burke, will enjoy the festival with his dog Lizzy while showcasing his hand-crafted furniture.
Burke, previously employed by Roundwood Company, assisted in building one of the most beautiful custom wine bars to hit the North Shore.
Burke, who owns Judd Burke Designs of Truckee, exhibits his skillfully crafted wood-inspired pieces for the first time at the Art Bark Festival.
“I am excited to be a part of the festival, it will provide me with an opportunity to get my name out there and allow people to view my custom crafted wood work,” he said.
He plans to display elevated dog feeding stands made with elements from the Tahoe region and mounted picture frames with leash/coat hooks — a great house accessory for every dog owner. While Burke will have his dog-friendly creations on display, building hand made furniture is his specialty. His booth at Art Bark Festival will show noteworthy tables he recently designed. All functional pieces show off his passion, talent and exceptional designs.
Burke moved to the Tahoe area six years ago from the East Coast. Taking his furniture design skills to the Sierra, he intends to establish a high end gallery and develop a stylistic line of furniture drawn from the area.
With a furniture design degree from Savannah College of Art and Design, his attention to detail and his artistic influence will certainly help him become one of the most impressive designers and builders around.
“My designs are modern, with clean and simple lines. I like to introduce other elements beyond the wood — like metals and glass,” said Burke.
With natural elements from the Tahoe region, Burke’s work adds to the theme of Art and Bark Festival.
