| Description: | The Space:
Tucked away on the West Shore across from Homewood Mountain, the West Shore Café is all Old Tahoe Elegance with a spacious dining room that seats 100, high ceilings, pillow-backed booths, rustic chandeliers and perfect for a cozy setting for two or dinner for the entire family. Enjoy pre-dinner drinks on a leather couch by the fireplace or by the outdoor bar in the summer. Each table in the restaurant offers spectacular views of Lake Tahoe and in the summer patrons can have the sensation of actually dining on the lake when lunch is served on the 60-seater pier.
The Food:
Executive Chef Bret Pafford’s style is centered around contemporary American cuisine, drawing influences from European heritage, which is evident in dishes like the foie gras appetizer with a trio of apple, brioche, toasted pecans and calvados currents. Pafford uses only the best ingredients and hand picks all the vendors, from shipping-in organic lettuce from Half Moon Bay to fresh fish from Honolulu. Each dish is not only a gastronomical surprise, but an artisan delight. Nightly specials from filet mignon to bouillabaisse are offered and the menu changes seasonally.
The Drinks:
Wine is the main attraction here, with a wide-ranging list of reds and whites from Napa to Tuscany to New Zealand. Pafford chooses wines that pair well with his food, so ask your server to help pick a bottle for the perfect combination. For a fun tasting, try the cheese plate with wine flights served alongside. A port and dessert wine menu is also offered with dessert and a full bar is available for thsoe who may not want wine.
Gotta Try:
Ask the waitstaff their favorite dish on the menu and the Moroccan Spiced Colorado Lamb Rack is always mentioned. The lamb is roasted in clarified butter and then seasoned with a variety of spices and served alongside chopped eggplant and a galette of potatoes and black olives, all atop a Chianti reduction. The flavors are succulent and the lamb melts in your mouth. For an appetizer, don’t miss the Seared Maine Diver Scallop with chanterelle mushrooms, melted leeks, bacon tuile and sorrel sauce.
Tidbit:
At the West Shore Cafe each customer is treated like a star and each meal is started with an amuse bouche and ends with petifoires. All the breads are made in-house and are served with organic butter. The restaurant also participates in the Excellence in Education Dining for Schools program. With this card, diners can receive half-priced entrees mid-week.
